How to Choose the Right Landau Bar Size

Step 1: Choose the mounting area

Step 2: Measure the available space

Start by identifying where the landau bar will be installed. G. Burns removable landau bars are most commonly mounted on a flat glass area, such as a rear quarter window or side window, depending on the vehicle.

The mounting area should be clean, flat, and large enough for the full landau bar and all three fastener points.

Measure the usable area from front to back where the landau bar will sit. Do not measure the entire vehicle panel. Focus on the area where the bar can actually be mounted cleanly and proportionally.

Leave enough room so the bar does not look crowded against window edges, trim, weatherstripping, or body lines.

Step 3: Compare your measurement to available landau bar sizes

Step 4: Check the vehicle suggestion chart

G. Burns removable landau bars are available in multiple sizes to fit a wide range of funeral vehicle applications.

Common sizing considerations:

  • 18-1/4" landau bars are often used for motorcycles or smaller mounting areas.

  • 26" landau bars are often used for many vans, midsize SUVs, and compact mounting areas.

  • 32" landau bars are often used when a larger visual presence is needed.

  • 39-1/2" landau bars are often used for larger SUVs, extended vehicles, or longer rear quarter window areas.

Step 5: Think about proportion and appearance

Step 6: Confirm fit before ordering

The best landau bar size is not always the longest size that fits. The bar should look balanced on the vehicle and proportional to the rear window or mounting area.

If you are between two sizes, compare the look you want:

  • Choose a smaller size for a more subtle appearance.

  • Choose a larger size when the vehicle has a longer glass area or needs a stronger traditional funeral vehicle presentation.

Before placing your order, confirm that the landau bar size fits the available mounting area and that all three fastener points can sit properly on the glass.
